#SaveCoulson

…Please reblog and help us spread the word…

Important Notes:

Click to view full size memo image

This project is intended to be a fun activity for fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to keep them busy until the series returns to ABC on Jan 7th.

This is absolutely not a “save the show” campaign. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing well in the ratings and also in international syndication and is not in any danger of cancellation (despite what some website might lead you to believe.)

This is a fun way for fans to actively remind the wider community that new episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. return to ABC on January 7th.

While this campaign was kicked off by shieldtv.net we encourage all fans, fan sites and communities to work together on this campaign, a united fandom is a strong fandom and there is fun to be had for all.

We are offering a few small prizes (eg, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. promotional posters) to a few lucky contributors who are particularly creative in their approach to this project (if other fan sites would like to contribute prizes of their own they are most welcome.)

This drink, I like it. Another!

This is me, except with a cup of tea. And without the smashing of the cup. Well, maybe without the smashing of the cup.

Pacing your Romance

How many of you guys have played a game in the Harvest Moon series?

In this game, your romantic interests have a “heart level.” It starts from black, then as you give them gifts, interact with them, do events with them, buy from their store, etc, etc, the heart level goes up from black to purple to blue, green, yellow, orange, and finally, red. When their heart is red you can marry them, as long as you’ve bought the upgraded house and the large bed.

image

Along this road to winning them over, there are certain “heart events.” They’re basically scenes in the storyline where you and your love interest have a special moment. Sometimes the conversation is about the relationship, the love interest’s past, their passion, a secret—it really depends. But it’s a one-time intimate moment that brings the two of you closer.

Depending on the heart level, what that person says to you will change. At the black heart level, their lines are generic. They’ll mention something random, work-related, genetic—nothing with depth: “My mother minds the store, and my brother looks after the chickens!” As the heart level increases, the things they say will be more specific to you. They aren’t things they would say to absolutely anyone. Like Gray, at his green heart level: “Grandpa and I are very impressed by you!” And we can assume by that, he really means “I’m impressed by you” and he’s using his grandpa because he’s embarrassed by how much he likes you.

image

Now think of this way of pacing, and apply it to your own stories. This is how Harvest Moon tends to organize things:

Black heart event: This introduces you, the player, to the love interest. It’s a first impression to who they are, their personality, their family, their role in the town, and so on.

Black heart: Your characters might start off with a black heart if they hardly know each other. Conversation is shallow, boring, and generic—more like small talk. In the picture, you can see that Gray even starts off a little rude.

Purple heart event: Typically in the purple heart event, the player will be given a choice between the love interest and another character—usually not something serious. For example, “I want to send him roses, and my mom wants to send him daisies. Help us pick!” Obviously, you need to pick your love interest’s side. This is probably when the love interest notices or recognizes the player as a friend.

Purple heart: The conversation will get a little friendlier.  Not much in the way of flirting yet.

Blue heart event: In the game, the love interest gives the player an item, but obviously you don’t have to stick to that.

Blue heart: At the blue level, things are definitely at or ever-so-slightly beyond the friend stage. Conversation is no longer generic—it’s tailored to you. There may be some minor flirting.

Green heart: Flirting. All the flirting. They will compliment you and want to spend town events with you.

Yellow heart event: The event is more serious than at the blue or purple level. The topic may be more solemn, such as their father leaving or angst in the family. At the end of the event, the love interest may admit they like the player (as a friend, or maybe more).

Yellow heart: We’re starting to get sappy. Major flirting.

Orange heart: Conversation is romantic. Probably goopy. At this point, the love interest is definitely into you. They may start asking what your future plans are.

Red heart: They’ll marry you if you propose. I’m sure you can imagine what a game character madly in love with the player would talk like.

Obviously you need to tailor these levels and events to you story. And even if your characters are too young to think about marriage at the red heart level, that’s fine. The point I’m trying to make: you should occasionally have “heart events” between your two characters, ranked in order of seriousness—they shouldn’t mention love until the later heart events. Between events, their relationship will be more friendly or comfortable than it was at lower heart levels.

At the same time, you don’t want to mash in a heart event every other chapter. They need to be spread out with lots of romantic tension between so that your readers are aching for your characters to reach the next level!

Just to point that GRU never was part of KGB (that is a separation which i want to made patent in my book). GRU is military intelligence, it is around since 1918 and by the name since 1942 and is still active (kinda SEAL team 6). KGB on the other hand is just civil intelligence (much like CIA) with both national (KGB) and international (SVR) reach. Anyway, cause the Red Room project she can be a full fledged agent at age of 9.

The problem I have with Natasha being born in 84/a full fledged KGB agent is that the MCU follows real-world history relatively closely. The Soviet Union collapsed in '91. If she was born in 84, there's actually no way she could have been a full-fledged KGB agent. It's just not possible. She could potentially be SVR RF or GRU (most likely GRU), but it just isn't possible for her to have been KGB at the age of 7.

I’m not going to say it could never happen, but I do doubt it. The screenwriters for CA:TWS (and CA:CW and A:IW) were asked a question about Natasha’s age before CA:TWS came out:

The comics obviously have this history between Winter Soldier and Black Widow, although Black Widow, as far as we know, was not born in WWII. Was there a different way you could approach that dynamic between them?

CM: They have crossed paths.SM: Yeah, we will leave it at that. But yeah, we acknowledge all of that stuff. We get it, but it’s—CM: Then you wind up in Infinity Formula territory where everyone is a 100 years old. That’s a strange world. [X]

So I really do doubt that Natasha is going to turn out to be secretly older. Which brings me to your point about the KGB. I think there is an easy explanation for why she said KGB.

Ease of storytelling.

Listen I’m a history nerd so this annoys me too, but what it boils down to is this: if you say “KGB” audiences around the world know instantly who you are talking about. And more importantly, audiences of English-language popular culture know that the KGB are the “bad guys”. If Natasha had sat there and said GRU, the vast majority of the audience would have no idea what she was talking about, and they would have had to extend the scene for her to explain to Steve (and the audience) what that was which would have A. increased the running time and B. dampen the emotional punch of her line. So from a storytelling pov, it makes perfect sense to use the KGB even when it makes no historical sense at all.

I think that if we ever get some sort of explanation for her line in the future, it is much more likely that the filmmakers would explain it one of two ways:

the MCU’s KGB continue on after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and never split into the GRU and the SVR RF like in our world

Parts of the KGB - like Department X - went underground either after the failed August coup or when the Belavezha Accords was signed.

Either explanation could work and the difference between our world and the MCU could easily (and conveniently) be explained/blamed on HYDRA manipulating events from the shadows.

AoS only use is to demostrate that SHIELD IS Nick Fury. I’m embarrased they took Hickman’s “Secret Warriors” run and turned into....that.

“Oh, let’s bring in Quake, but leave all the cool stuff out”

I can tell the anon exactly what they are doing wrong, but i doubt he is really interested (whenever i mention it on the forums they tell me to stop bitching cause they “like it that way”). I voted to put an eyepatch on John Reese from Person of Interest and all the “Machine” thing could pass for a SHIELD operation.

Alright I got to know why do people dislike Agents of Shield? I mean I get it if you got turned off by the first two seasons but right now the show is better than it's ever been.

because it has boring “characters” and it seems embarrassed to be a comic book show.

meanwhile on the flash there’s king fucking shark and gorilla fucking grodd

and because it’s tied in to the mcu they cannot really do anything

or mention things

or have interesting characters on it

meanwhile supergirl is like ‘here’s martian manhunter’

and it might be better now but that’s like saying you’re feeling better because you’re only having violent Diarrhea twice a day instead of three times a day.

It’s still awful. And it’s only worth watching for May, Morse and Ward.

Should have made a separate tv universe.
