ok so I came across a little malcolm bright fanfic (don't worry babes, linked below, go enjoy) and it began a lil bit of brain rot so hear me out:
(spoilers for the fic, go read it first if you want, commentary/word vomit bit is below)
ok so in this malcolm has a seizure disorder which Gil knows about, but not Dani. stuff gets figured out, others are updated etc. etc.
BUT
my lil goblin brain couldn't leave well enough alone so after like the third time reading this i've decided to pen (or rather type) these ridiculous things i can just about call thoughts
SO
let's set the scene, malcolm (yh for some reason my brain thinks the name looks better lower case? sorry if that bothers you but now it's slightly more symmetrical?) has a seizure while Gil and Dani are there.
(also not trying to romanticise anything, just going off what i got)
Dani and Gil are both used to the Complete Human Disaster™ that malcolm is so obviously they both know seizure first aid for future reference.
(also gentle reminder, if you don't know this go find out, there's like st John's ambulance videos that make you a functioning member of society in under 10 mins)
now, based on the confidence that each of them seem to have regarding the situation, they keep looking at each other like "huh, they seem to have done this before"
so they end up each thinking that malcolm must have epilepsy/a seizure disorder that the other knows about but they never got told.
they look after him, do all the things you have by now learned in helpful video format (wink wink) and everything is fine, right?
THEN
when malcolm eventually wakes up, and is told what happened he is understandably eloquent in saying "wtf, how, why etc." and his surprise makes them realise that for once he wasn't just conveniently leaving out information.
i feel like this started out fine and got slightly more unhinged and less logical as it goes on but if that isn't life i don't know what is
the point may have gotten a little lost and it petered out a bit but i said a thing and it's done so woo
i love the effect of this film
i think it's so powerful in the last shot especially?

read the comments, they are funnier than me but that's what I want to say
— “ You too should know that we would be honored if you decided to stay with us, John.”
— “ Yeah, well I think the Air Force has got other plans for me.”
— “ We also just had to say it out loud.”
i expected Swedish. had a moment thinking I had magically learned to understand a new language. (if that sounds familiar it may be because you have read the comments on the Broadway backwards cellblock tango)
I need the evidence.
I spent like 4 hours looking for this. Pls if anyone knows how to source this footage I would be very grateful
Not that I'm still thinking about Graceland (I'm always thinking about Graceland at least a little bit) but I really am mad that they deleted the scene in the pilot where they confirm that Mike has ADHD because it explains and informs so many character choices for him, not to mention the fact that we would have gotten ADHD representation of a character who is clearly intelligent, extremely competent in the field, and taken seriously by others. A lot of time ADHD rep is only there for lazy comic relief and is reduced to "Haha I'm easily distracted hey look a squirrel!" Here we would have gotten not just a solid character, but the PROTAGONIST as good representation.
In the pilot we see Mike taking deliberate notes, fidgeting with his hand exercise tool, repeating words to memorize information, struggling to recall info under stress, being unsure of when his roommates are serious or joking, and working really hard to prove how capable he really is. He has high academic scores, because having ADHD does not mean you can't do well in school. He's clearly worked really hard to get to the place we find him in the pilot. He's set up to be a really well rounded, multifaceted individual with ADHD and then they fucking cut the scene where it's confirmed, so now we're left to pick up the pieces on our own.
I will say though I love that even though the expository scene was cut, Mike still shows a lot of signs of ADHD that come through anyway. I dont know if the writers put that in intentional or if Aaron chose to play him that way, but good job either way. I'm still upset that they cut out the deliberate representation, but what we do have isn't any less important.
love the film, also want to be ungovernable. goats are underated ngl
whump 101, and still my favourite trope

After resetting their own bones
In a window, after pulling themself through
On the way to their own execution
Lifting/Holding up something that could crush them and/or someone else
Holding up something that could crush Whumper....hmm

I have been a part of 2 major campaigns to save my favorite shows plus contribute to some minor ones. It took years for us to save the shows which was only possible because they were animated. Everything we are doing now was also done back then. But Lockwood is live action with aging actors/actresses; it has to be save sooner. We won our battle back then but this one will be harder. However, we have one golden opportunity that other campaigns did not have.
Let me lay the field down for you. If you google Netflix cancellations you will see dozen of articles written over the years and you would basically be reading the same article over and over: Despite high viewership and reviews Netflix cancels another show, does not advertise/promote enough, does not want to pay residuals for shows past 3rd seasons, Fans/subscribers not happy, and criticism about Netflix playbook and questioning it’s wisdom. Not to mention that Damn quote “we have never cancelled a successful series”. You can also find articles of Fandoms efforts trying to save the show just like us. But it’s become the Same article over and over. We need something new to be reported on.
You know what is also being reported? The WGA strike. With the strike going in to it’s 3rd week most of the basic reporting is done and now it’s just repeat of picket lines. But we can change the narrative. We can give the news something new and different to report on.
There is a WGA strike fund you can donate to support the strikers but more importantly you can tribute your donation to someone. Someone named Lockwood & Co.
Entertainment blogs will report how the growing frustration of Netflix cancellations has now lead to donations to WGA. The movement will hopefully gain traction and more news will be written. Other fandoms might join in for revenge of their cancellations. If we are successful a news broadcast is done showing the picket line but also showing clips of the show. That will get the show attention it’s never been given before. Attention that will hopefully get it back on the Top Ten. That would be another headline and even more attention.
You can click here to make the donation. But don’t forget to Tribute to Lockwood & Co.
Edit to add the lowest donation you can make is $5.
Make any size donation you want (don’t forget the transaction fee). Make a one time small donation. Make a large donation. Make multiple small donations.
It would really help if other people can blast this idea on other social media platforms. Make Memes, videos, TikTocks, Instagram posts, etc.
A lot of people are hurt by Netflix cancellations but Netflix has never cared no matter how many angry letters, comments and posts are made. It’s the same old song and dance. But now We actually have a chance to hurt Netflix back in a way it never has been. Let the cancellation of Lockwood & Co be the straw that broke the camels back. Lets be reckless enough.

So the same for next week, please post something each day, "whatever you want about the show, the actors, the characters, the books, etc… just make sure to use the hashtag #SaveLockwoodandCo + the daily hashtag according to this schedule ☺️"
