I'm fat and I will always be chunky as I do come from a long line of short, fat women. Lately I've been working on myself and have lost around 56 pounds so far. Today I walked a mile and didn't die.

There’s a high chance the loud noises and faint smell of bacon coming from the kitchen is purposefully trying to tempt somebody out, but Cumulus has been tossing and turning so long that she really doesn’t care. It only takes about 20 seconds before she’s throwing on a robe and slippers and setting down the hall in search of a distraction.
There’s a faint discontent noise from down the hall that she immediately clocks as belonging to Rain, bringing a soft smile to her face. It is so rare that she gets time alone with the water ghoul, the two of them often getting snagged by somebody else. This chance for the two of them to hang out alone is beyond overdue.
Before heading to bed she had noticed how beautiful the moon was shining on the lake, streaks of captivating pale blue light rippling with the shifting surface of the water. It had almost convinced her to head down, so it makes sense that Rain ended up there. Odds are he got carried away and only wandered back in.
As she rounds the corner to the kitchen, she can’t help but take a moment to appreciate the darling look of concentration on Rain’s face as he carefully pours batter onto a griddle in slow deliberate shapes.
“3am seems a bit early for breakfast” she teases, hopping up to sit on the counter opposite the griddle.
“It’s not so much early for breakfast, but late for dinner really. Got caught up at the bottom of the lake enjoying the moonlight, when I realized I was starving. Nobody else was up, but I had a feeling the extras wouldn’t go to waste” he yawns out in response, flipping a pancake onto the empty plate next to Cumulus.
“Hmmm you have always been perfect tempting, and I am here now so it’s a fair assumption.”
Cumulus smiles at the heart shaped pancake before picking it up, ripping it and handing one half to the water ghoul. She takes a quick moment to reunite the heart in a cheers motion and pops the treat into her mouth.
“Mmmm, it might be the late hour but that’s beyond amazing”
“Sunny and I have been working on incorporating fruit puree into the batter” Rain beams, sighing contently as he eats his own half.
“Mmm I love that y’all found an excuse to do something together that doesn’t end in tracking water everywhere”
Rain attempts to fake looking hurt at the insinuation that Sunshine and him are anything but well behaved, but it only lasts about 3 seconds before he dissolves into giggles.
“Yeah alright, well maybe you and I will have to scheme up some trouble to make up for it.” he lilts, following the air ghoulettes eyeline to the bacon beside him and handing her a piece.
The two go back and forth trading jokes and enjoying the alone time as Rain finishes up cooking. Eventually they hear a telltale groan of Mountain stretching as he shambles down the hallway to start his early day and make sure to leave the plates of food where he will see them.
They quietly scamper off to the patio to leave him to his routine, and make plans to meet up for some less elaborate late night snack and overall shenanigans on a semi-regular basis.
The next time the moon gets that particular irresistible shine to it Cumulus knows she’ll get alone time with her favorite water ghoul once again. This time she doesn’t even attempt to sleep, knowing the anticipation would keep her up anyways.
Here's my two cents on that whole issue about Per. I've been a Ghost Fan for roughly 2 years now. Some things may be new to me and stuff but let me just say a few things about the whole controversy concerning Per Eriksson. First of all, all these twitter threads dragging Per through the mud are unreasonable. I feel like all of you wish to interpret more into something that is not really a problem. Let me remind you that he has been rarely active on social media up until recently, from what I have grasped. I also think that in the past few months there has been a huge increase in forcing people to state their stance on certain topics, mainly political topics. I am aware of the fact that it is important to raise awareness to the pain of defenceless and vulnerable people, even better so if you are a public person. BUT. From my point of view, Per seems to be somewhat of a "shy" and maybe also a cautious person (hence why he is not that active on social media), even though it may be not the appropriate terms to describe him. Him not actively stating he is against a war does not mean he does not care about what's going on. Please realise that there are people indeed who do not want to mix their music and band stuff with political issues. Per is not a politician to owe you a statement regarding anything. If he wants to speak out, he is gonna do it but do not force him to do that. I feel like people want to interpret things that are actually unsaid as something worse than death. I also get that there a controversies surrounding his girlfriend. I've heard about the allegations against her and I do hope Per knows what is best for him. People tend to forget he is a grown man who is capable of deciding for himself. And we should all respect his decisions ,at least, if we cannot respect the privacy of his.
I haven't watched the whole live stream only a few snippets, but from what I've seen is that Per seems to be a soft spoken, friendly being who wouldn't hit a fly with the newspapers.
Again, it's just my take on this whole situation. I am neither defending someone nor do i pass a harsh judgement upon someone I actually do not know.
Enjoy the music and stay friendly.
Hi Moony!
I realized something today that made me a little (a lot) sad, it feels so silly to be sad about but I realized I only have 5 cows out of my cow collection I've had since I was little, and one of the ones I can't get back I'm really sad about because he was the perfect hugging cow. As always you can ignore this if you aren't feeling it but I was wondering if I could ask for something about Mountain with Acker? I really miss my cows and I Mounty with his cows is always so cute and comforting. 🧡🖤
🎃
This is just a small thing but I hope its ok 🩷
Mountain frowns as he looks over his stuffies. He always tried to make sure they all got attention of course but he seemed to have been neglecting someone and now he felt bad.
He grabbed Acker off the bed and crushed him to his chest, apologizing into his fur. Somehow he'd overlooked his cow! Somehow he hadn't spent any time with him.
“I'm sorry Acker! I didn't mean to forget about you!” He hugs the cow as tight as he can, Dews voice from the speaker box breaking the silence. “We can have a whole day together, just me and you!”
He carries him down the stairs for breakfast, making sure Acker gets served too. Swiss smiles and cuts a tiny piece of toast for the stuffy, patting his head the same way he does to Mountain.
They chat and eat breakfast and Swiss smiles when Mountain takes his napkin and wipes Ackers mouth with it. When they are done, mountain hugs Swiss and heads back upstairs to get dressed. He packs his backpack and heads to ask permission to head outside.
He finds rain on the couch in the den, his crutches resting beside him.
“Hi pere.”
“Hi fluer!” He smiles wide at the little ghoul. “Going somewhere?”
“Can I go outside with Acker so we can draw?”
Rain sits up and glances at the window. “Only right there where I can see you. I'm pretty sure Secondo is out there somewhere ok?”
“Ok! Thank you pere! Feel better!”
Rain laughs as Mountain rushes outside. He finds his spot by the window where Rain can clearly see him and he sets up his art supplies, keeping them right between himself and Acker to be easier for sharing. He lays on his belly, his legs kicking up behind him, humming as he draws himself and Acker running through a field of flowers.
He talks to his cow, sharing secrets knowing they're safe with his stuffie, giggling to himself as he imagines what he would sound like if he could talk.
When he gets chilly, he packs everything up and carries Acker back up to his room for a story before nap time, mountain's not tired…of course not, but he thinks maybe Acker is. They get comfy on the bed and Mountain starts reading, only making it two pages in before he falls asleep with his cow tucked in his arm.
Dew finds him just after lunch, gently waking him up with a snack plate ready. Mountain shares with Acker again and Dew sets up a movie for them to watch together. Mountain explains certain parts to his cow just in case he's confused.
Dinner does the same as breakfast, only Mountain keeps Acker on his lap while they eat. Cumulus kisses the top of each of their heads and everyone makes sure to greet his cow after saying hello to the little ghoul.
“Oh cool acorn is joining us!” Phantom laughs from his spot, winking at mountain at the nickname.
It always makes him laugh and this time is no different. “We had a whole day together!”
Dew puts an arm around the back of his chair. “What did you guys get up to today?”
He tells them all about their day and everyone listens intently, agreeing it was a lovely day that he and Acker had today and how special that was.
Acker sits up on the sink while Dew helps Mountain in the bath and they all snuggle with Dew and rain afterward, the water ghoul ready to read them a bedtime story. Mountain kisses his other stuffies first, tucking them in under a soft blanket before he climbs into bed with Acker.
Rain reads until mountain drifts off, tightly clinging to his cow. They kiss his head and Ackers, wishing them good dreams before they shut the door.
Okay, the Carhartt coat thing. Here we go @autumnblooms , some soft squishy thoughts for you ft. Water Dew and Mountain.
Ft. some flower language.
Red roses meaning love and passion
Cyclamen meaning lasting feelings and sincere affection
Dew steps out of the Abbey doors and squints into the light. It's winter, and there's a crystalline quality in the way that the sun filters through the frost dancing in the air. Dew grips the mug in his hand closer to his chest, trying to absorb a bit of its warmth and hunching his shoulders forward into his coat. Ice crunches under his boots as he makes his way to the heavy wooden door across the courtyard that leads to outside the ancient stone walls.
Dew ducks under the dormant ivy and through the door, ears twitching at the sound of an axe ringing through the air. The smell of balsam reaches his nose and he smiles, tail swishing as he walks quicker towards the source of the sound and smell coming the edge of the forest.
As he draws closer to the treeline he sees Mountain with his back turned to him. The Earth giant is crouched close to the ground, clearing snow away from a great Spruce tree. Its magnificent, the ends of its branches sparkle with diamond-like drops of ice, frost coating the pinecones dangling off the tips of its boughs, sparkling with frost like a coating of glitter. It will be a beautiful Yule tree once Mountain brings it into the Great Hall of the Abbey.
Dew trills, and Mountain turns at the sudden noise, smiling broadly at the sight of the approaching Water ghoul. He pushes the hood of his Carhartt coat back from his head and straightens, approaching Dew.
"Hi, Droplet, whatcha got there?"
Dew withdraws the mug from his jacket, offering it to the taller ghoul, "I brought you some cocoa, prepared with spices and a tiny bit of chili, just the way you like it."
Mountain takes the covered mug from Dew's tiny hand, taking a sip. Warmth and comfort blooms in his stomach, and he purrs at the taste of the spiced chocolate, his favorite. He looks down at Dew, who's trying not to show that he's shivering now with the absence of the mug's warmth. Mountain sets the mug down on a nearby stump. He unzips his jacket, opening it in offering to the Water ghoul.
Dew chirps and leaps forward, wrapping his arms around Mountain's waist and burrowing his face into the Earth ghoul's solid chest. Mountain puts his hands in the pockets of his Carhartt coat and wraps the fleece and canvas around his partner. A purr kicks up in Dew's chest and Mountain chuckles as he squeezes the Water ghoul close to his body, a rumbling purr vibrating through his chest and into Dew's body.
"Your cocoa is gonna get cold," Dew mumbles from within the cocoon of canvas and fleece.
"It's okay, Water Lilly, you're the more important priority right now," Mountain laughs, squirming a bit as Dew rubs his nose into Mountain's underlayer.
After a short time, Dew emerges from Mountain's embrace. His face scrunches and he twitches his nose at the dusting of snow flitting down from the trees around them.
"Come sit and have some of that cocoa while I finish here. It shouldn't be too much longer," Mountain shucks off his coat, spreading it canvas side down on the stump for Dew to sit on, and places the steaming mug in his hand.
A few last good thwacks of the ax brings the Yule tree down to the ground. As Mountain sets the ax down and wipes his hands off on his work pants, he glances over his shoulder and his heart stops at the sight behind him. Dew had taken his Carhartt jacket off the stump and burrowed into it, the material dwarfing his tiny body and covering his legs down past his knees. His dainty hands peek from the gargantuan sleeves as he sips from the mug of spiced cocoa.
Dew watches Mountain approaching him, eyes slipping upward to the flowers that had bloomed at the base of Mountain's antlers in the the time it had taken him to cross the clearing to the Water ghoul enveloped in his massive coat.
Mountain reaches up, plucking a red rose and a Cyclamen from his antlers, offering them to Dew. He bends down and presses a soft kiss to the smaller ghoul's lips, conveying all his love and affection for his ghoul wrapped up nice and snug in his coat.
"I love you, Bug."
"I know."
Ok first off (I hope I'm not to late) HAPPY BIRTHDAY <3
And second, I just read your latest fic where Phantom regresses for the first time AND I LOVE IT. Honestly, little ghouls have a special place in my heart and it always makes me so happy to see other share the thoughts I have especially when they're kinda similar to my own (like Tain being the older and Dew just being a tiny baby)
Anyway, I'd like to request (only of you want off course) Phantom meeting little Rain and Dew for the first time? Maybe he is still big at first but just seeing Rain playing with toys/stuffed animals and Dew being cradled in someone's elses arms and getting taken care of looks so appealing to him and Swiss coaxes him to maybe join if he wants and slowly he does and Rain and him start to play together and the day ends with Swiss tugging them all in (Dew at first of course). Also you can add pretty much everything else you want, like with what they play, or what Dew does!
Getting to this super late lol (thank you for the birthday wishes I appreciate it)
This idea was so sweet and this is what popped in my head. I needed something soft so this was a joy to write.
I hope it's ok love 🖤🖤🖤
Cw: regressed ghouls, shy phantom, tiny Dewdrop
He'd been in a floaty in between space all day. He hadn't slept well and he didn't feel great and really all he wanted to do was wander into Swiss' room and ask him for help.
But he didn't want to bother him. He didn't want to be too needy...
He hears...he's not sure what he hears in the den but he's curious enough to go find out.
Swiss is on the couch with Dewdrop on the floor between the lower half of his legs, like Swiss' legs are the only thing holding him up. Rain's stomping around with two dinosaurs in his hands, shrieking and making them knock over towers of blocks.
One of the blocks lands in Dewdrop's lap and he blinks at it.
Rain swoops over with the pterodactyl. "Dew's gonna get squished! We gotta save him!"
Dew giggles quietly when Rain uses the dinosaur to grab the block off his lap. Swiss smiles and runs his fingers through Dew's hair.
"Good thing we've got Raincloud huh, firefly? He saved the day!"
"I'll always save Dew!" He races around the room and Dew claps.
Swiss catches him from the corner of his eye. "Hey bug!"
Rain stops running and Dew pouts. Phantom shuffles his feet, fuzzy socks sliding on the wood of the floor.
"Come over here." Swiss pats the spot on the couch beside him.
Phantom launches himself against his side, hiding his face in his shoulder.
"Feeling shy?"
He nods, thumb weaseling up into his mouth. He loves Rain and Dew but they've never been together like this and now he feels like he's intruding.
"Want to just sit with me and watch for a little bit? You can join in and play whenever you're ready."
He snuggles in closer, watching Rain from behind his hair when the water ghoul starts running around again. He roars and shrieks and makes the dinosaurs fight and Phantom smiles.
Rain flops over beside Dew, breathing hard and hands a soft, crinkley star to Dew who promptly shoves it in his mouth, biting hard into the fabric.
"Do you know dinosaurs?" Rain peeks over Swiss' knee to look at Phantom.
He shakes his head, gnawing on his thumb. He doesn't really...
"You can teach him." Swiss ruffles Phantom's hair. "You know what he does know a lot about? Sharks!"
"I have sharks! Hold on!"
He sprints from the den and Swiss cringes into the couch.
"Walk Rain!"
Dew makes a grumbling little sound in the back of his throat and bites his toy harder.
"Maybe Dew's not a firefly, maybe he's a dinosaur!" Swiss smiles down at the little ghoul between his legs, nose scrunched up as he chews on the star.
"C-could be a dragon...."
"Very true, love bug! Dewdrop the dragon!"
Phantom giggles when Dew tilts his head back to look at them, the plush toy hanging out of his mouth.
Rain darts back into the room, arms full of sea creatures.
"Hang on! Mounty has the rest, I can't carry all of them."
The giant rounds the corner with the rest of Rain's toys and Swiss laughs at him.
"You're lucky there are little eyes and ears right now." He drops the toys onto the floor. "Hi bug."
He blushes, Swiss is the only one who has seen him like this and he's not sure what to do.
"S'ok you don't have to talk to me until you're ready."
Dew squirms and holds his arms up until Mountain scoops him up.
"Hello firefly."
Phantom bites his lip. "D-dragon.."
"Hmm? Sorry bug I didn't hear you." He kneels with Dew in his arms, closer to the little Quint but not touching. "Can you tell me again?"
He glances at Swiss who nods. "Dew...h-hes a d-dragon..."
Mountain's eyes go wide. "He is?"
Phantom slowly uncurls from Swiss' side. "Yeah. He ate a star!"
Rain bounces over. "Help me find treasure! Dragons need treasure!"
"Why?"
Rain shrugs. "I don't know...but in all the stories they have some..."
Mountain laughs. "I think Dew is getting tired. Why don't you show Phantom your sharks for now."
Rain takes his hand and pulls him from the couch, both of them laughing when they bump into eachother. Mountain takes the spot Phantom had been occupying, tucking Dew more comfortably in his arms.
Swiss drapes his arm along the back of the couch and runs his nails over Mountain's shoulder.
"Been busy today?"
"Yeah, Sister has me doing the walkway differently now. She saw it at another Abbey so now naturally ours has to look like that."
They chat while Rain and Phantom play whatever game they created and Dew falls asleep, fingers wrapped tight around Mountain's thumb.
"Bath time?"
Rain whines. "But-"
"Minnow." Mountain warns.
"Sorry..."
"If you both clean up you can take a bath in Lus' tub together, lots of room for both of you and a couple sharks."
They race to clean up the toys, only getting distracted a few times. Mountain had left to get the bath ready with Dew in his arms.
"Ok pick a few toys to bring with you." Swiss claps his hands together. He wraps his arms around their shoulders when they're ready and guides them down the hall to Lus' room.
"Hi Lus!" Rain yells as he sprints by, racing to the bathroom.
Phantom clings to Swiss, chewing on his lip.
Swiss tugs his lip from between his fangs. "You're gonna hurt yourself, would you like a soother?"
He peeks around the multi ghoul to watch Cumulus. She's in a chair with Dew wiggling in her lap, fussing softly.
She shushes him and runs her fingers through his hair, holding him tight to her chest until he settles.
"Oh...hi bug! I didn't see you there!"
He gives a tiny wave but doesn't move from Swiss' side.
Lus smiles. "Do think you can help me before your bath?"
He likes helping...he nods.
"Can you pick some jammies for Dew for me? I forgot to grab them and he's comfy now."
"I-I can help." He tugs Swiss' hand. "Where are they?"
"We'll run to Mountain's room real quick and grab some."
Swiss leads him down the hall and over to the dresser with Dew's clothes, the ones saved only for when he's this small.
Phantom pokes around, rubbing the fabric between his fingers, scrunching his nose with his tongue poked out. Fully focused on the task at hand.
"This one!" He waves the soft pajamas around so fast and races back to Lus' room before Swiss can even see what he picked.
"Wow you're fast!" Swiss hears Cumulus before he walks in and he smiles, she's got him out of his shell without even trying.
"Picked these ones! D-Dew ate a star and now h-hes a dragon and these have stars!"
Her eyes go wide and she gasps. "Oh my goodness! Don't tell Aether that he ate a star, he might get nervous."
Rain pokes his head out of the bathroom. "Dew wouldn't eat Aether! Come on Phantom! The tubs ready!"
Swiss ushers him in just as Rain sinks into the bubbles, already making his sharks fight each other.
Swiss helps him from his clothes and helps him over the lip of the tub so he can sink into the water beside Rain.
Swiss laughs when Rain tosses a squishy squid at Phantom and it splats against his chest .
They splash and play, giggling happily, creating games Swiss can't even keep up with. He lets them play longer than usual, well past bedtime.
Rain begs for Lus to wash their hair, claiming she's the best at it and Phantom simply takes his word for it, only shying away a little bit before relaxing under her careful fingers.
He gets them dried off and in their pj's. He can't resist them and their soft puppy eyes when Rain asks if Phantom can sleep in his room with him and Mountain laughs with his arms full of a sleep soft Dewdrop.
Rain kisses Dew's cheek and Mountain's and Phantom gives a little wave before Rain grabs his hand and sprints off down the hall.
Mountain kisses Swiss softly before taking Dew down to his room for the night, humming a lullaby as he walks, swaying the little ghoul gently.
"Ok pick a book and hop up into bed so I can get you tucked in."
They pick Puff the magic dragon and Swiss squishes them together and tucks them in, tickling them when they are trapped under the blanket.
Phantom falls asleep halfway through but Rain makes it to the end of the story despite his heavy eyes.
Swiss smiles and pushes his hair back. "You helped Phantom a lot today, duckling."
"I did?"
"Mhmm, I'm really proud of you."
He smiles wide and snuggles down into the blanket further. Swiss kisses the top of both of their heads before switching on the light projector, sea creatures dancing across the walls with a soft glow.
"Sleep well, I love you."
The only response he gets is soft even breathing from both little ghouls.
Rating: G Pairing: Mountain/Aether with brief appearances by Dew and Rain. Words: 750ish Using this one as an excuse to talk about the abbey library (since I wrote this while at the library it seems fitting). Mushy May brought to you by @forlorn-crows Divider by @ghuleh-recs
Aether loves the library after dark. When it’s been deserted by the day staff. Lights turned low. Doors left closed, but unlocked. He lets himself in after long shifts at the infirmary and wanders the stacks. It’s a way to decompress. Not that there is that much stress at the infirmary these days. Mostly he deals with colds, flus, sprains, stitches, the occasional baby. There was a time when trauma seemed to live in those walls. Where he would go in knowing he’d come home bloody.
But lately, things have calmed down. Evened out. He likes it. He likes the abbey quiet and stable. He knows it won’t last forever–can’t. That something will happen, another power shift, and the whole place will turn itself upside down again.
He’ll haunt the library then too.
He walks the whole library before he even thinks about a book. Weaving in between the tall shelves. Climbing the narrow stairs to the fiction section, lofted above stacks and stacks and stacks of history texts and dusty books about summonings.
He looks down over the library, it’s dark wood, and vaulted ceilings, and plush victorian era couches. He turns and plunges deeper into the stacks. Dragging his fingers over the spines of new fantasy books preferred by Rain, and the romances Cumulus and Sunshine read voraciously. He browses Dew’s horror section–in case there’s something new he should bring home to the fire ghoul. Glances at the young adult section that Aurora has devoured since she got here.
He snags a historical fiction for himself, and presses onward into the darkness. There’s a nook, Dew found it years ago, tucked away behind this section. A set of winding stairs hidden behind a wall panel. Aether touches two fingers to the section of wall and it clicks, and pops out, swinging on invisible hinges.
He steps into the stairwell and tugs it closed behind him. There’s light coming from above. The faint glow of the fairy lights he and Cirrus hung right after Dew found this spot. He follows that glow up the steep stairs and emerges into a small comfortable room. More of an attic than anything else–but transformed into something cozy. There’s a big window in the gable, flooding the room with moonlight. It’s warm and quiet, and not empty.
Mountain’s seated on one of the many floor pillows. A blanket curled up around his shoulders, back to the wall, horns just barely brushing the peaked ceiling. He’s fully absorbed in a book that Aether recognizes as one of Rain’s favorites. Not a usual pick for the earth ghoul.
Mountain looks up at him as Aether gets closer. He smiles, it’s warm and sleepy. He pats the pillow next to him.
“Did you just get off work?”
Aether nods, dropping down next to Mountain. Shifting so their thighs touch from hip to knee.
“What are you doing up?” Aether leans his head into Mountain’s shoulder. Mountain reaches up and scratches his fingers through Aether’s hair. Soothing fingers rubbing soft circles above his ear.
“Didn’t realize what time it was–got caught up.”
“Thought you didn’t like fiction.”
Mountain huffs out a little laugh. “Yeah, guess I was wrong. Rain has good taste.”
“He does,” Aether agrees. Settling in, he grabs a blanket of his own and opens his book. One he’s been meaning to read for a while. “You hanging out for a while?”
Aether doesn’t mind being here alone, but sometimes–especially tonight–the company sounds nice. Mountain’s ground presence sets him at ease like nothing else, he wants to drown in it.
Mountain nods. “Got 100 pages left–I need to finish it. And then there’s the sequel.” Mountain holds up another thick paperback.
Aether smiles, he leans his head a little deeper into Mountain’s shoulder and cracks his book. They fall into companionable silence, soft breathing turning into subtle purrs as the night wears on and the moon sets.
In the morning, when Dew comes looking for them–he finds them curled up together. Books drooping from their hands. Covered in the same blanket, heads tilted together. The room filled with soft snores. He takes a picture before he retreats. Sending it to Rain who’s out searching the greenhouse for signs of Mountain.
Found them he sends with the picture.
Adorable Rain responds seconds later.
Dew smiles at the sleeping ghouls in front of them, then turns away. He pads quietly down the stairs and closes the door softly behind him, and goes to finish making breakfast. They’ll emerge when they’re ready–but until then, Dew is more than happy to let them rest–they deserve it.
Mushy May Day 16
Cw's: mental health problems. isolation, self deprecation, issues eating, non-sexual nudity (showering together). but it is a mushy prompts list, so all ends well!
notes; this one was like a mind flayer and took control over my hands and suddenly there 1,2k words of hurt/comfort, my fave. thanks as always to @forlorn-crows for putting together the prompts!
Rain didn’t… know what happened. The day before, everything was fine. Normal even. They ate their dinner with the pack, played on their acoustic with Dew, and then went to bed. It was an easy, simple night. They laid in their bed, exhaustion heavy in their muscles, but their mind raced.
They knew they were okay. Logically they knew the pack cared so deeply about them. Logic, unfortunately, was not winning the battle tonight. They felt the first round of tears sting and scrubbed viciously at their eyes, their breathing shaky. Their mind screamed at them to hide away, isolate from their pack until they were nothing more than a nameless ghoul. No one would notice, they figured.
But, logically, everyone would notice. They knew logically.
It started with a quiet knock in the morning. A little later than when they usually woke up, but a sleepless night forced the exhaustion to seep further down into their bones. The knock wasn’t persistent, just someone coming to wake them up for breakfast. Judging from the footfall after they knocked, it was most likely either Aurora or Cirrus. Rain opted with Cirrus.
Twenty minutes went by before the next round of knocking started, followed by Aether’s soft voice. He mentioned that they left a plate for them in the oven, and that he was there for them if they wanted to talk. That they all were. They curled into themselves further, throwing the blanket over their eyes to hide even farther. Had they really done this so much that the pack knew their patterns? It hadn’t even been an hour and already they were being a nuisance to their pack.
The day wasted away. They only got up to use the bathroom before crawling back to their bed. The bedding felt heavy against their skin, the pillow somehow greasy, but it was all they had in the moment. It felt like they were in fight or flight, and their body and mind couldn’t pick an option.
A few others came by throughout the morning and into the afternoon. Most would knock, call out, and then leave when they got no response. They heard Phantom walk by at some point, and the young quint didn’t knock nor call out. Rain thought they had left quietly before they quietly sighed, just barely loud enough that Rain could hear, before finally walking away. They felt a fresh batch of tears well in their eyes at the disappointment obvious in the quint.
It was nearing the evening of the day. Rain stayed in their fetal position most of the day, their body aching in ways that were comforting but ultimately awful. They felt cold, a type that couldn’t be fixed with blankets. Their stomach groaned in need of food but they felt nauseous at the thought of eating or drinking anything. They had flitted in and out of sleep for most of the day, but the exhaustion made its way down through their bones and into their core.
They were woken up from their nth nap of the day by the doorknob turning and the door opening. They smelt before they heard Mountain enter, the earthy smell of sage and rosemary flooding their room. They held their breath and kept their body stone still, scared of what he was here to do. They felt guilt immediately for assuming the worst in the gentle giant, but kept still.
Instead of anything malicious, he sat down at the end of the bed and placed his hand against their calf. He messaged at the skin. It was so warm. Their eyes stared directly ahead of them to the blank wall, not daring to look at him.
“Rain,” he quietly called out. They didn’t respond.
He sighed and took his hand away to stand. They violently flinched when he scooped his arms under them and picked them up bridal style. They shut their eyes tight.
“We’re going to wash up,” Mountain pulled the mounds of blankets off and away from them, the dull thud as they fell sharp against their ears, “and then try and get some food into you. Does that sound good, starfish?”
Rain kept their eyes shut. Mountain took it as a yes and walked towards the bathroom.
He sat them on the toilet and they slouched heavily until their head hit his stomach. He twisted to turn the water on before he focused his attention back towards them. With a bit of maneuvering, the two managed to get their clothes off, Rain being very little help. Mountain said nothing as he lowered Rain onto their shower seat, the spray of the water forcing a heavy sigh out of them. He shucked his shirt to the ground and stepped in himself, just to the side of them. They hesitated every movement as he helped get them clean; fingers twitching when he asked for them to lift their arm, head locked in place when he pointed the sprayer towards their hair. Everything built up higher and higher in their small body until it came crumbling down when he massaged the shampoo into their curls, his blunt fingers rubbing soothing circles into their scalp. Their face, deadpan and void of emotion before, broke into a deep frown as the tears that teased them all day finally fell down their face, an ugly sob coming deep from their chest. They held their head in their hands while Mountain continued to lather the soap through their hair. They leaned into his touch, suds spreading to his abdomen. He kicked up a purr that vibrated through their ears to their brain. They sobbed harder, loud whines and hiccups and guttural cries.
“I’m-” they sucked in a harsh breath, “I’m sor- sorry-”
“None of that,” Mountain spoke softly but firm, voice unwavering.
“I was being- being so selfish.” They argued.
He shook his head. “It happens, starfish.”
“And now I’m f-forcing you to deal with me-” they were interrupted by him leaning down, just enough for them to see him through tears, and his smile was so gentle, so caring. So genuine. It made them fall harder into him.
“None of that.” Mountain stood back up and leaned over to grab the spray. They let his firm hand tip their head back as he began washing the suds out of their hair. “I’m taking care of you.”
The rest of the shower consisted of Mountain rubbing conditioner through their hair as their sobbing died down into something quiet. He helped them dry off and put into clean clothing, boxers and a shirt that was definitely not theirs. He opened the bathroom door and their nose twitched. It led them to their nightstand, where a bowl of oatmeal sat. Mountain sat them on their bed, the covers and pillows no longer feeling heavy but warm and comfortable, and crawled in himself. He whispered kind words as they carefully ate, the bowl warm against their thighs. They set the bowl back down after a few bites, stomach still upset from their mental turmoil of the day. Mountain didn’t complain, though. He praised them as he tucked the two of them in.
Rain hid themselves away into his chest, arms cautiously wrapped around his waist. He purred loud enough for the next room over to hear. They rubbed their head against him in an attempt to scent him, his scent lulling them into a soft mindset and heavy eyes.
“Mount,” they slurred into his skin. He hummed in question.
“Thank you.”
He shifted a hand to their still damp hair and began scratching at their horns. They began to purr as well.
Just the fact Swiss has a cowbell this tour cycle and it's a no phone concert is killing me. I need to see how freaky that ghoul gets when he's playing it.
