can we please talk about the color symbolism going on with ASL bc i constantly think about this bc i'm obsessed

when ASL were kids, their colors were red, blue, yellow

peep their flag

now we all know Sabo's color is still blue but what interests me is the way Ace and Luffy's colors evolved bc if you google what their official colors are you get this

(google thinks every color in Ace's character design is his color, but we're focusing on the orange)

so Luffy evolved from yellow to red—Ace's color—and Ace evolved from red to orange—a combination of their childhood colors

i also want to bring up the color of Luffy's haki, especially showcased in Wano

we know his haki is typically colored as red but what surprised me was

his yellow haki, or his ryou, i guess and also

the way his haki is orange too? especially when using his Ace-inspired move?

ok, ok, so in childhood Ace was red and Luffy was yellow and to me that makes sense bc

also, Luffy being represented by both colors as he gets older also makes sense to me because he had two sides that absolutely embody the two separate meanings of the colors

but like the symbolism of orange???

personally, i think Oda was COOKING with the color symbolism with these freaks bc when i fucking think about it it makes me emotional

Luffy wears Ace on his heart every day when he wears red, he honors him with his orange haki, and Luffy still hasn't forgotten who he truly is when he's in yellow

Ace, though, completely incorporated Luffy into his personality, he didn't keep the pain from his childhood trauma but covered it with the joy and warmth he learned from Luffy

knowing Ace left a permanent mark on Luffy, and he's happy to showcase it every day

but

knowing Luffy fundamentally changed Ace down to his very core, and he was so proud of it
