Christianity. That Word For A Lot Of People Means A Religion. We Forget That It Literally Means ‘Christ

Christianity. That word for a lot of people means a religion. We forget that it literally means ‘Christ follower’ or ‘little Christs’. True Christianity is much less a religion and far more a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Now, what are some things that all healthy relationships should have?

1. Communication! Two-way, honest, and frequent communication. How does the Christian do this? By prayer! 1 Thessalonians 5:17. There are many other verses on prayer, but what I want to focus on is hearing God speak to us. John 10:3, 10:27, 16:13, Revelation 2:7, 2:11, 2:29, 3:6, 3:13, 3:20, 3:22, and many more that speak of us hearing/listening to the voice of God and the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

2. Spending Quality Time with each other! This can be by prayer, by reading God’s Word, by worshipping and praising Him, by just simply sitting and soaking in His presence.

3. You talk about one another! Luke 6:45 says “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Meaning that whatever you hold dear in your heart will come out in your speech. Do you talk about Him? One really cool thing that I found is that, if we are completely sold out for Jesus, that He does brag on us! Example: Job 1:8 “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”

There is a lot more that I’m missing, but these are the first three things that come to mind when thinking of what makes a healthy relationship. I think that too often the church forgets that being a Christian is not a religion, but a relationship with the very Creator of the world!
