"show me some magic," arthur says to him one day on a hunt. it's been weeks since they've last spoken anything more than a necessary formality. arthur's jaw has been set tight the entire time, as if all the tension of learning about merlin's biggest secret has decided to settle there.
"i-- are you sure?"
arthur doesn't even look at him when he waves his hand, get on with it. merlin frowns. stares at a spot on the ground and watches as a flower blooms out of season.
arthur stares at it a moment too long before plucking it from the root. they ride home in silence.
"show me some magic," arthur says a couple nights later. merlin's readying his bath, and he's exhausted, and it's simple to just heat the water with a wave of his hand like he's used to doing in secret.
whatever tension arthur holds in his shoulders bleeds out when he sinks into the water.
"show me some magic," arthur says again, the next day, the next. they're all small acts, and though they haven't begun to really talk yet, it doesn't make things more awkward. in fact, arthur begins to let the sense of wonder play out on his normally unreadable face whenever merlin makes a spark of light appear.
slowly, they find their old repartee. it takes a while, a handful of more magic displays, but arthur finally seems to feel comfortable around merlin again, and it gives him hope that maybe there is a future they can build together, past this seemingly impenetrable wall they've built between them in the mean time.
"show me some magic," arthur says. "i can't sleep."
so merlin does. puts stars in his canopy and shows him fairytale scenes. before arthur dismisses him for the evening, he quietly says, "thank you."
the next day, arthur announces a progressive lift on the magic ban.
"show me some magic," arthur grins as he waves his hand around the tavern. merlin wants to say, here? now? but instead he makes a patron's ale bubble over and a drunkard trip. arthur laughs, then, for the first time in months, uninhibited.
it becomes a part of their routine. arthur likes the small, practical jokes merlin can play, but he also likes the beauty he can create. he asks for both, and merlin gives it to him, because it is for him, after all. all of it.
and the first time arthur calls out "magic!" during battle, merlin is all too ready to show him that, too.
it makes merlin brave, braver than he's ever been. this is arthur, keeper of his kingdom, his heart. merlin has been laid bare before him and arthur keeps asking show me, show me, show me.
"show me some magic," arthur says one night, when they're sitting by the fire that needs to be stoked and sharing the last piece of crusty bread.
merlin pauses. he can easily guide the flames higher. arthur's seen that trick before.
instead, he reaches over the distance between them. ghosts his fingertips over arthur's knuckles, before closing his hand over his.
arthur's brow draws tight, but beneath the confusion is that same sense of wonder that's always been there. there's something about you, merlin.
"what are you doing?" he asks, amusement laced with something daringly hopeful.
"showing you some magic," merlin says, and then kisses him.

So I saw this post and I just had to draw it. I know the background is rly crappy and the lineart is veeeeryyy poorly done but eh, I didn’t have too much time so I kind of had to hurry
Also I’m sorry for my giant inactivity, I just couldn’t find any motivation to draw lmao. Anyways, Tsukki would 110% do this.
So I actually first planned to write a Kagehina fanfic and needed a picture for it. And that’s how this came to be. (I never wrote that fanfic btw - I got lazy lmao)
But I kinda tried out another drawing style (mainly with the coloring) and I actually like how it turned out. (I know I know, the background and Kags hand are terrible but LET ME DREAM)
Hey guys! So this is going to be my first post. This picture is actually a bit older and I am not that satisfied with it, but have it anyways lmao
And if I remember right, it’s even my very first Iwaoi fanart!
This is so interesting! I can‘t wait to check out the books listed above.
My legitimate surname is Merlin and I‘ve been wondering where it comes from for ages (I‘m not from the UK or france) and the whole thing just got more mysterious to me once I realized the mythological wizard isn‘t even named that, but Myrddin instead.
Maybe I‘ll do a DNA test at some point? At least my surname got me really invested in the arthurian legend and celtic mythology in general, which is a nice niche interest to have.
anyway just a reminder for the myth lovers out there
king arthur was welsh. merlin was welsh. camelot was in wales. the lady and the lake she pops out of; welsh. excalibur; magic inanimate welsh object. etc.
on the way to see family, i drive past a lake that in which is welsh legend, is the last resting place of excalibur.
i’m just saying in my experience a lot of these legends had been so anglo-fied in the past and it’s like, all this cool shit is celtic welsh legend.
This post is less Good Omens- related and more personal, but there's been a lot of arguing over "representation" in the fandom the past few days. The strong feelings people express are awesome but ALSO I really want us in the community to appreciate and listen to one another.
People want to KILL queer people. There are still many, many places where it is not safe to have any identity other than cis het. Fighting that means sticking together, not tearing each OTHER apart. Allosexual, asexual, lesbian, gay, cis, trans, nonbinary, gender queer, GNC... we're all part of this community and we're stronger together.
In Good Omens, Neil Gaiman gave us a glimpse of what a world could be if people got to decide for themselves how to present and who to love without the hate and prejudice that inevitably comes along with that in the real world. I know people are questioning exactly what Crowley and Aziraphale are and how they identify, which is fine (honestly I don't know that we'll ever find out for sure. It may be something private between the two of them). But saying things like "it's homophobic" (for them to be ace), or "it's acephobic" (for them to be gay) sort of defeats the purpose of "it's a love story", doesn't it? At the end of the day, maybe it doesn't matter what EXACTLY they are. They're unapologetically QUEER and their story is for and about all of us.
It's okay to disagree. It's okay to ask questions. I mean, that's the moral of Good Omens, isn't it? We don't have to be the same; we SHOULDN'T all be the same... there's strength and beauty in our differences. But even if we don't all agree with one another, let's support each other.
I see them as gay male coded beings who have chosen that identity for themselves and would enjoy sexual pleasure as much as any other earthly pleasure. If YOU see them as agender or nonbinary sexless entities who are QPR or ace or aroace and would never have sex, I SUPPORT THE HELL OUT OF YOUR RIGHT TO DO SO. I'm in your corner and I will fight for you.
Love you all. Love that we love the ineffable love story of Good Omens, whatever form that takes, and let's lift each other up rather than tearing each other down.
some of y’all be shipping iwaoi bc u love oikawa…. rip to u but i’m different…..
heyyy guess what guys! I’ve finally found some drawing motivation again so there’s some iwa-bae coming up soon!!
(Idk when I’ll manage to finish it, god this pose took aaages to get it right)
