the mission had left both of you exhausted, your feet dragging as you walked alongside megumi in the cool night air. the stars twinkled above, and despite the silence between you, it felt peaceful. megumi, as usual, seemed lost in thought—focused, as if replaying the events of the day in his mind.

you glanced at him, noticing the slight furrow in his brow, the way his shoulders looked just a little more tense than usual. he always carried the weight of everything so seriously. “hey,” you said, breaking the quiet. “how about we sit for a while? the stars are really nice tonight.”

he looked over at you, hesitating for a second. “we’re almost back.”

“come on, it’ll only take a minute,” you urged, flashing him a small smile. “it’s not like we get to relax much anyway.”

after a beat, he sighed and followed you to a small patch of grass off the path. you both sat down, and you leaned back slightly, letting the cool breeze brush over your skin. megumi, though sitting next to you, stayed upright, his eyes fixed on the sky.

“it’s quiet out here,” you murmured, looking up at the stars. “kind of makes everything feel… far away.”

megumi hummed in agreement, though his gaze remained distant. after a pause, he said, “you handle things well out there.”

the comment caught you off guard. “oh, thanks. i guess i’ve had good practice,” you laughed lightly. “you’re the one who always has it together though. i’m just trying to keep up.”

he didn’t respond right away, his eyes flickering down to the grass for a moment before back up at the sky. “it’s easier when you’re around.”

your breath caught, and you turned to him, waiting for him to say more, but he didn’t. he kept his gaze upward, his expression neutral, but there was a softness in his tone that made your heart skip a beat.

“really?” you asked, your voice quieter now.

“yeah,” he said simply. “it’s not just the missions. i mean… you’re easy to be around. i don’t have to think so much.”

the admission hung in the air between you. it wasn’t blunt, it wasn’t a grand confession, but coming from megumi, it felt like a lot. your chest warmed at his words, a smile tugging at your lips.

“well,” you started softly, “i like being around you too.”

megumi didn’t say anything in response, but you noticed the subtle shift in his expression, the way his shoulders seemed to relax a bit more. after a moment, you decided to push just a little further, feeling braver.

“you’re not bad company, you know?” you teased, nudging him lightly with your shoulder.

“is that supposed to be a compliment?” he muttered, but there was a hint of amusement in his voice, barely noticeable.

“maybe,” you replied, laughing softly.

megumi finally looked at you then, just for a second, but long enough for you to see the faintest trace of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. it was subtle, almost like everything he was feeling was hidden beneath the surface, but it was there. and somehow, that small smile was enough.

“let’s stay a little longer,” he said quietly, turning his gaze back to the sky.

you nodded, leaning back to fully take in the stars again, but now your heart felt a little lighter, a little warmer.

Megumi was never the type to seek out romance. It wasn’t that he was opposed to the idea—it just never felt like a priority. Between exorcising curses, training, and keeping his friends out of trouble, love seemed like an unnecessary complication. But somehow, despite his reluctance, he found himself drawn to you.

At first, it was subtle. You noticed the way he lingered when you spoke, his usually stoic expression softening just a little at you. He would often glance at you when he thought you weren’t looking, and despite his habit of keeping people at arm’s length, he never seemed to push you away.

The confession wasn’t grand or dramatic. That wasn’t Megumi’s style. One evening, after a long hard mission, the two of you sat together in the comfort of his dorm. He was extra quiet, his fingers idly tracing patterns in the grass.

“You know…” he started, his voice calm but laced with something hesitant. “I’m not really good at this kind of thing.”

You tilted your head. “What kind of thing?”

He sighed, almost frustrated with himself. “Relationships. I’ve never had one before.” His gaze flickered to you, searching for any sign of amusement or judgment, but you only waited for him to continue. “But… I think I want to try. With you.”

A small smile crept onto your lips. “Are you asking me out, Fushiguro?”

His ears turned slightly red, and he looked away. “Yeah,” he muttered. “I guess I am.”

You reached out, taking his hand in yours, feeling the tension in his fingers before he hesitantly relaxed. “Then let’s try together.”

Megumi wasn’t the kind of boyfriend who showered you with words of affection, but he showed his love in the quiet moments—the way he always walked on the outside of the sidewalk, the way he let you wear his hoodie when you were cold, and the way he always made sure you were safe during missions.

For someone who had spent so long believing love was a distraction, Megumi found himself caring more than he ever thought possible. And for the first time, he didn’t mind.

Interesting direction with nagi leaving could be that he ends up on another team and plays against Japan in the world cup, with episode nagi following his progression there.

I think this has the potential to be actually genius, to give fans another team to root for (think haikyuu) which would in turn make the overall conflict even more intense, with higher stakes, plus getting more people to read episode nagi = 💸

Additionally, it would be really big brain if the original intention of episode nagi was to give a story in parallel about the bluelock opponents (which I guess is the actual point of episode nagi, just on a bigger scale)

at age seven, isagi learns two things. one, universal truths are always in the present tense (his teacher told him so), and two, you kiss the people you love (his mom told him so). knowing these, he kisses you under the slide in the playground, because he loves you, at least as he understands it at his age.

at age sixteen, isagi decides two things. one, he will become the best striker in the world, and two, he still loves you, albeit a little more than his seven year old self previously thought. but instead of kissing you, he hugs you tightly before he boards the bus to blue lock, and he takes in all the details of you. he thinks of the smell of your shampoo and the melody of your laugh while he's there, but he never tells anyone that.

at age twenty eight, isagi achieves two things. one, he wins the world cup, and two, he gives you his last name. the kiss you share at the altar is wetter and saltier than the one you shared under the slide, thanks to your tears, but his feelings engrave themselves into your memory all the same. he kisses you again for good measure, much to everyone's amusement, and wonders how his love for you is meant to stay in the present tense when it exists in all past, present, and future tenses.

⸻ in which i'll be rating their love language on a scale of 1-10 based on my understanding of their personality + include the type of person they'd be compatible with.

ISAGI YOICHI

ACTS OF SERVICE: 9/10. Out of everyone in Blue Lock, he's the only one (or one of the very few) characters with a decent mental health and thus, have a secure attachment style—at least, based on my observation. He seems like a genuinely nice person so he strikes me as someone who'd be really helpful towards their significant other even when it's unprompted. You don't have to tell him if you need help with something because he's probably on it already.

WORDS OF AFFIRMATION: 9/10. Although this guy has such a dirty mouth when playing soccer, off the field, he's actually pretty nice. He even comforts his rivals and isn't really afraid to say when he feels really grateful. You could be doing something as simple as picking up something he dropped and he'd probably give you a small smile with a grateful look on his face as if you handed him the world—that is, when you're his significant other.

Exhibit A: when he thanked Rin for the assist when he scored the last point in the U20 match. Technically, considering their relationship and the nature of Blue Lock, he wasn't obligated to thank him, but he personally felt the need to express it.

PHYSICAL TOUCH: 7/10. He's probably not the type to initiate it, but he's definitely not against it especially if it's his significant other. At first, he'd probably be all awkward and unsure since no one really showed romantic interest in him (according to the Egoist Bible as he hasn't received chocolates on valentines), but he eases into it pretty fast. You just have to be the one initiate all the time. Also, I feel like he doesn't want to feel like he's intruding your personal space which is why he holds back.

QUALITY TIME: 7/10. He strikes me as an independent person, but not the type to isolate himself or retreat into a little shell. He'd probably be the type to think that when you're in a relationship, there are sets of "obligations" he wants to fulfill as a significant other such as remembering significant dates, spending quality time by going out or even just staying in, etc.

GIFT GIVING: 8/10. He gives gifts when there is a special occasion like christmas or your birthday or whatnot, but he probably thinks that he's not all too great at picking out what gifts to give. I feel like he's the type to get you things that you once mentioned you wanted at one point in the past. Like if you say that you wanted a watch about three months ago, that's probably the gift he's going to give you for the next special occasion.

COMPATIBLE WITH: honestly, he looks like he can get along with anyone so long as you're both able to treat each other with respect. It doesn't matter whether you're outgoing or more introverted, or love to explore or stay indoors. I think that with this guy, what matters more is having equal respect for each other.

ITOSHI RIN

ACTS OF SERVICE: 6/10. He's a pretty angsty and irritable teenager on the exterior, but if he warms up to you, I'm sure that he's always helping you, though it's more for his sake than yours. He seems like the type to feel a bit annoyed when something's out of place, so if he sees that your bag's about to fall off your shoulder, he's immediately grabbing it and putting it back in place.

WORDS OF AFFIRMATION: 3/10. Not the best at words (he probably got that from his brother). He's not going to comfort you with words or reassurance if you're feeling down, but I think he has the decency to at least stay quiet and listen if ever you're sharing your feelings; it's just that he's not really sure what to say. The best reassurance he can give is by objectively telling you how a situation could likely play out.

PHYSICAL TOUCH: 2/10. Sorry, but he doesn't look like the touchy-feely type. The best he can probably give is a pat on the shoulder that might feel a bit heavy with how he works out a lot. It would be up to you to initiate stuff like hand-holding or hugging, but I'm quite sure that that will take a very long while for him to warm up to.

QUALITY TIME: 7/10. I feel like this is the best love language for him. I feel like he's the type to prefer hanging out in peace and quiet, doing mundane things if he isn't vigorously training. The best hangout would probably be something like watching a scary movie together or chilling on the couch playing scrabble or whatever. Still, I think he'd want hangouts to not be so frequent as he gets pretty tired from social interaction.

GIFT GIVING: 5/10. He knows that couples usually give gifts to each other, but he doesn't really see the point in doing that unless the object he's going to give is something necessary. Basically, he doesn't like giving useless shit that will wither and die in a few days. So, he probably wouldn't randomly buy you romantic stuff like flowers or give you letters, but he'd definitely give you something useful like a pouch, or a table organizer, or a watch if you don't have one.

COMPATIBLE WITH: someone who is empathetic, but also able to set boundaries. I feel like he spent a lot of his time brewing negative feelings due to the disagreement between him and his brother and their lack of communication, which is why someone who is empathetic and isn't afraid to articulate their own feelings is suitable for him. He needs someone to learn from as he doesn't even know how to healthily process and assess his own emotions. But still, they should also be able to set boundaries and know how to stand up for themselves because he tends to be pretty harsh with his words.
