A total of 216 people experiencing homelessness died in Toronto last year, according to new data from the city.

Figures released on Friday by Toronto Public Health (TPH) indicate that there was an average of 4.2 deaths per week of unhoused people last year.

The city says the number of deaths in 2021 rose significantly from 2020. Seventy-two more people died last year than in the previous year, when 144 unhoused people died. The number of deaths has more than doubled since 2017 — the first year that the city collected such statistics — when 101 people died.

Please help I am homeless and trying to survive the winter, I find shelter when the public libraries are open during the daytime, but then I’m in the freezing cold at night, unless I get a donation so I can take shelter in a coffee shop at night. Please help a non binary person who hasn’t been able to find work and is homeless, broke, hungry and scared. I don’t want to go back into SW to survive. I feel trapped. Please Boost , I have been out here in the cold every night for the past few weeks trying to get into a shelter, it’s hard to stay in the line, there is too much violence and my anxiety makes me leave. They can only let so many people in and the line up is so long. They are closing shelters here and making it more difficult for the homeless everyday. When the library closes and everyone goes home is the hard part for me because I’m outside till the library is open again.
