This one will be little longer too, but I must make the mood ;-p
———————————————————————————
When she came home Erin was waiting for her with set table. There were mostly some kind of berries and fruits. Eunis sat opposite Erin. During the lunch was awkward silence. She was probably still angry about Karmisha.
´Karmisha. I almost forgot about her.´ Eunis ate as fast as she could, but she did not want to arouse suspicion. She hid some berries into her palms. Erin didn´t notice. When they finished their meal, Eunis thanked her and went to her room. Karmisha was awake but she still in the basket. She started whine friendly and wagging her tail. Eunis knelt down next to her and patted her head.
“I brought you something to eat.” she showed her the berries. Karmisha licked and began to hungrily eat.
“You're pretty hungry, aren´t you?” Eunis smiled. “How is your leg? Doesn´t it hurt?“ she gently stroked bandaged paw. Karmisha hissed in warning.
“Sorry.” she apologized. Then she had an idea.
“Wait a minute. I'll get you something for the pain.” she said, and went to look into Erin's back garden. There grew a variety of herbs. While she was searching between the flower beds and then found what she was looking for. Orange leafs of Malva. It is herb which inhibits pain and also has good taste. Unfortunately it is hard to find it. It´s 7 cm high plant with orange leafs with significant yellow veining and hem. There are just few elves that have this plant. Erin was luckily one of them. Eunis tore out few leafs and returned into her room through the back door. When Karmisha smelled sweet scent of Malva, her eyes brightened.
“I see that you know what it is” she said smiling. She gave her the leafs and sat on the bed. Karmisha started to chew them immediately in order to get the healing juice of them as soon as possible. When she was done Eunis patted her head and went for an appointment. Arian was waiting for her. He was leaning against tree trunk looking at the clouds. Before she could say anything, Arian gave her a worried look.
”How is Karmisha? It still hurts her?”
“Don´t worry. She's okay.” she said. “I gave her something to eat and against occasional pain. Soon she will be just fine.” Arian was greatly relieved.
“That's good. I thank you very much.”
“It was nothing.” she felt that she blushed, so she quickly added: “Where do you wanted to take me?” His eyes lit up.
“It will be a more demanding path, but it will be worth it.” he said with that mischievous smile.
Firstly they went across a large meadow, then along a small stream and then through deep forest. At first they turned to the left, then go straight, then right, left, straight, left, right, and thus still zigzagging through the forest.
“How can you orientate here?” she wondered. “It all looks the same.” Arian shrugged.
“I don´t know. I just do.”
After a long time they finally came out of the forest and in front of them was a high rock. Near them was meandered narrow path leading to a rocky platform.
“There is our goal.” he pointed a finger at it. Eunis stared fearfully at the high point.
“I probably can´t handle this.”
“Why wouldn´t you make it?” Arian asked.
“I'm afraid of heights.” she kept her eyes on the platform, which was at least 50 meters above the ground.
“Just don´t look down and it´ll be fine.” he advised.
“O-ok. I'll try it.”
They went on a path that leads around the perimeter of the rock. They walked slowly. The way was long. Eunis was afraid. Arian went ahead to find out the state of the path. She was nearly in half, when she felt under her feet how part of the path burst and Eunis screaming slid off the path. Fortunately, she grabbed the edge.
“Arian!” she cried. “Help!”
Arian ran as fast as he could. When he saw how Eunis was hanging down, he froze.
“Please help me. I can´t hold much longer.”
Eunis felt that the path under his weight was cracking. In a moment she will fall.
“Give me your hand. I'll pull you up.”
She grabbed the offered hand and let him pull her up. When she again stood on solid ground, she sighed with relief. They stand still for a moment. Then Arian took courage and looked down. Far below them was a pile of rocks, which a moment ago broke away from the path. Eunis grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
“Do not go to the edge. You can fall, too.” she said in a calmer but still trembling voice. “I wouldn´t be able to pull you up. And thanks.”
“It was nothing. Mainly, that nothing happened to you.” his voice was already calm and confident, but his eyes still show horror they had just seen.
“Do you dare for the rest of the way, or we go back?” he asked cautiously. Eunis studied the remaining about 20 meters in front of her.
“It's just a bit. I'll stick to the wall, and hopefully it will be okay.” Arian smiled. “But you can´t leave me.” she said seriously. Arian put his right hand over his heart.
“I promise I'll still be by your side.” and bowed.
“Alright.” She nodded and they carefully continued at their path. They were stick to the wall and walked lightly. The path seemed endless. After a long time they reached the rocky platform. Eunis looked around. It offered her an incredible view. She saw from the Dralin mountains to the Coast of Naravan´s Sea. Because of twilight the sky had a pinkish color and alpenglow floated on it. It was beautiful. Half of the island was at your fingertips.
“It is amazing here. How did you…” but when she turned around, she didn´t see him. Instead of him, she glimpsed huge enter to big cave.
“Arian, are you in there?” He didn´t respond. She slowly approached the entrance to the cave. Suddenly she heard slow, muffled footsteps.
“Arian?” she asked, even though she had feeling that it´s not him. To the steps was added heavy breathing. Eunis backed away. She didn´t know who or what it is, nor where Arian is. The creature slowly approached. From the darkness of the cave emerged a huge paw with sharp claws. Eunis had to cover her mouth with her hand to avoid screaming. Subsequently began to take shape of monster's head. Huge snout high above the ground, wide mouth full of sharp teeth, small eyes and pointed ears. He growled angrily and got closer to Eunis, who was still backing away. She tripped over a rock and fell. She was so terrified that she could not stand up again. She sat on the ground and watched the animal, which was taking shape in the light of the setting sun. It stopped just before her. It studied Eunis paralyzed with fear. The animal opened its mouth and stuck out his long, thin tongue. Eunis terrified stared directly into its mouth, but she couldn´t move. She watched its huge mouth with long, sharp teeth approaching her. She closed her eyes. However, instead of fangs on her face she felt wet and sticky tongue. She opened her eyes and wiped her wet face. The animal looked at her once more closely at and lay down. Eunis didn´t understand what was happening. She was still sitting on the ground and bewildered watching the creature. Then Arian came out from behind. He looked at frightened Eunis and began to laugh loudly. Eunis looked at him in disbelief. Then she returned her attention to the huge animal. Arian wiped his teary eyes and helped Eunis up.
“You should see your face.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, but she didn´t leave her sight of the animal. Arian scratched animal behind the ears and it wagged its tail happily. Eunis already occurred, what Arian thought.
“You miserable bastard!” she scolded. “You did it on purpose. You will see. Wait till you get in my hands!” Eunis clenched her fist and strutted resolutely to Arian. The animal was faster. It conceal Arian with its head, he bared his teeth and growled. Eunis backed away with fright.
“Calm down, big boy. We were just playing.” he soothed it.
“But I meant it.” she muttered to herself. When the animal stopped growling, Arian pointed to Eunis.
“Well, this is Eunis. My friend so be nice to her.” Then he looked at the Eunis.
“And this is Tarlok.”
“Also your friend?” she asked indignantly.
“Yes, he's my friend. And don´t be mad anymore.” he pleaded. “It was just fun.”
“It wasn´t SUCH fun to me.” she said angrily. “He scared me to death!” she pointed to Tarlok.
“Firstly, I almost fell off the rock and then this. That I'd rather didn´t stay at home.” she turned offended.
“Sorry then. I just wanted to introduce you. I didn´t know you would be so scared of him.”
“Sure.” she said. “Who could be frightened by two meters tall monster with a huge mouth full of sharp teeth. After all, he is actually quite cute if it will not eat you.” she added sarcastically.
“Come on.” he pleaded. “Just look at him.” he hugged Tarlok around the neck. Tarlok tried to look sadly at her, but with those tiny, matt white eyes he wasn´t successful. Small ears were coiled backwards. Big black snout was slowly inhaling the warm air. Long teeth were gleaming ominously. Lower canine teeth were even so large that they overgrow the upper jaw. He looked scary indeed. Huge front paws with four fingers terminated by sharp slightly curved claws were folded under his head. His body was massive and long. His dense brown-gray fur looked rough. Eunis gathered her courage and put her hand to his side. She was surprised. His fur was in fact very soft. Almost like sheep wool. From the forehead over the back until the middle of the tail he dragged a narrow dark stripe. On the sides dragged other smaller strips from the strip. Arian looked at Eunis quizzically. She scratched Tarlok behind the ears. He began wagging his tail happily. She smiled.
“I have to admit, he's really nice.” Arian grinned triumphantly.
“See, I told you he is cool. Although it looks dangerous, but at heart he's good.” Suddenly from somewhere from below came muffled screams. Eunis and Arian winced. Tarlok startled stood up. From the forest beneath them took off a bevy of frightened birds.
“What - what was that?” Eunis asked.
“I don´t know.” Arian said. Tarlok moved his ears in an attempt to capture more sounds. He started slowly backing away to the cave. Arian looked worried.
“Whether it is whatever, it scared even Tarlok and that's not good. He is not easy to scare.”
“Oh no.” Eunis gasped in horror.
“What?”
Eunis pointed to where another bevy took off.
“There ... is ... our village.”

One of my first good books I read was this one. I borrowed this book from my mom, becouse Joy is her favourite author.
Joy Fielding was born 18.3. 1945 in Toronto. She writes novels and also work as actress. She is married and has two daughters.
If you like little drama with hint of krimi, this kind of story is for you. One young lady realizes that she is in unknown part of city and she don´t know how she get there. But that´s not all. She don´t now anythyng. How old she is, where she lives, members of her family if she even has it. Just one thing. Her name. Her name is Jane. After few hours of confusion she is brought to police station where is some strange man waiting for her. He called himself as her husband. She has a doughter with him. But why? Why she forgets?
After some time passes some faded shattered memories wants to come back. But those stupid pills make it so hard to remember. She decidet to stop taking them. More and more things are coming back to her. Then, she realizes...
I won´t spoil you whole story here. If you want to know, go to the library or book store and get this book. I also read more of her books and I must say, that everytime I got incredibly excitet about it. I would say, that her story lines are perfectly calculated and in the end surprise always wait.
Say hi to Tarlok :-)
I finally got to draw this big guy. In my story he is pretty important, even if it doesn´t look like that. But first thing first.
Tarlok is how Arian named his. It´s not name of animal species. And as Arian said, they are friends. Tarlok doesn´t understand what anybody is saying, but he can feel what is going on.
He is about two meters tall and long carnivore. Most of his meal is made by birds and small mammals. He lives in caves where he digs tunnels. He has also great orientation sense. He never get lost in his tunnels and some of them are dead ends. Because he lives in dark caverns, his sight is really poor and he can´t see well. He relies a lot on his olfaction and hearing.
He lives a solitary life, but when he finds a friend, he is very loyal to him. His life is usually 40 years long. He is mostly calm and passive, but if he is in danger or angry, he can kill you with one swipe with his paw. His strenght and speed are incredible. His huge tail helps him to hold balance when he is running or standing on his back legs.
This never fails to make me laugh so hard I choke on air 🤣👌✨
After a week I am back :) This week was the school pretty hectic so I am sorry for possible mistakes :-p
———————————————————————————
Arian paled in horror. There was another scream. Tarlok froze and sniffed. Then he turned and disappeared into in the cave.
„We need to know what is happening there.“ He said hastily. He went to the narrow path they had come. Eunis followed him.
“We can´t go this way.” he said. “It would take a long time, and we could fall. We must find another way.”
”But there is no another way out” Eunis moaned. “We're trapped.”
“Not really.” he added hopefully. “Many times I saw Tarlok in the woods. He was hunting birds there. So he first had to get down. And he would never get there by this one very narrow path, so ...”
“... there must be some other way for him in the cave.” she finished his sentence.
“Exactly.” he said enthusiastically.
“But we will have to find it first.” she said despondently.
“Don´t worry. I´m sure that Tarlok will help.” he told her. But when he looked back, he saw that Tarlok had disappeared in the cave. Eunis and Arian looked at each other and ran into the cave. It was a dark and damp. From somewhere in the distance, a cool breeze was blowing. They went straight along the wall. Every now and then they tripped over some rock. Once their eyes adjust to the darkness, they saw another three entrances into the dark tunnels.
“Cool. And where to now?” she sighed.
“Tarlok! Hey Tarlok! Help us find the way out!” called Arian. His voice echoed eerily. Then silence. From one of the tunnels could be heard thundering footsteps. After a moment Tarlok emerged from the middle tunnel. He nodded to them to follow him, he turned and went back through the tunnel. Eunis and Arian ran after him. They had to walk fast to keep up with his long strides. The tunnel was still darker and darker and began to meander. There were also a few crossroads. If they went just themselves, they would get lost, but Tarlok knew exactly where is he going and where to go. The air was heavy and humid with an admixture of mould. They thought that they really got lost when he turned into the tunnel at the end of which they saw the long sought light. They had to cover their eyes to avoid blindness. Outside, they could finally breathe fresh air.
„Thanks Tarlok.” she said appreciatively and patted his side. Moments of enthusiasm did not last long. Again the desperate cries and calls for help.
“We need to hurry to the village.” Eunis suggested. “But where are we?” she asked, looking around. Arian also looked around.
“We are on the edge of the Cornwood forest.” he said.
“But that´s so far.” Eunis moaned. “We won´t get there before sunset. And that's probably too late. You do know any abbreviation or something, right?” she asked with hope, but also with a hint of desperation in his voice. Arian shook his head. Eunis felt helpless. And she hated this feeling. A mixture of helplessness and fear. Arian was scared too. Although he didn´t show it and probably he wouldn´t admit it. But in his eyes was confusion and fear. His thoughts were interrupted by Tarlok. He poked him with his nose, almost making him fall. Then he lay down beside them. Eunis had to smile. How could she not think of it before?
“I think that he offers us a lift.”
Arian also couldn´t help but smile too and hugged him around the neck. So they climbed on his back and clutched his long fur. Tarlok stood up and began to run. They had to hold really tight so they won´t fall. On how he is large, he is incredibly fast. And so they soon found themselves on the edge of the village.
“Here you can stop” Arian told him. Tarlok obediently slowed down to a complete stop. He lay down for them to be able to dismount. Eunis scratched him behind the ears in thanks and Arian patted his neck.
“You'd better go home now, buddy. They could get frighten by you as Eunis here, but this time it might not end well.” He said worried. Tarlok licked both with his long tongue. He got up and ran home. Eunis listened. Silence. No screaming or other sounds. Arian was confused. He crouched down and walked toward the village. Eunis followed him. Then he quietly hid behind a bush, which grew by one of the houses. Pushing a few leaves away for a better view. The sight was horrible. Lots of houses were demolished, all over the ground were barrels, containers and various other things. But they didn´t see anyone.
“We are late.” Arian whispered and mesmerized staring at the mess. Eunis felt her tears roll down her cheeks. Their home was destroyed, their friends and family might be dead. Who could do such a thing? Eunis ran out from behind the bushes into the middle of the village. Watery eyes helplessly looking around to see if see could catch sight of anyone. Not a soul.
“Hello! Is anybody here? Answer me!” she cried desperately, her voice shaking. No answer. Arian walked after her and put his arm around her shoulders. Eunis leaned into him and cried. Arian returned her the hug. He couldn´t understand why their village was attacked. It was an ordinary village. It wasn´t rich in silver, gold or anything else. So... why? From the gloomy thoughts he was interrupted by a soft voice. Eunis probably also heard it, because he started to look around.
„Did you hear that?” she asked, wiping her eyes. Arian released her and nodded.
“Hello?!” As answer was a low moan. “Where are you?” Again a faint sound. It was coming from somewhere on the other side of the village. So they went to the place where they heard the call. They reached the half destroyed house, which belonged blacksmiths Sankore. All sorts of tools were lying on the ground. Embers from the fire were strewn across the floor, make it black-stained. In the left rear corner of the room they saw a hand that pounded the ground in an attempt to call for help. The rest of him was littered with debris. They began to clear away blocks of stone and wooden beams that once formed the walls and roof. It gave them a lot of work. The stones were heavy and they had to be careful not to make the stones to fall on him. After a long effort finally pulled the poor guy.
“You okay?” Eunis asked and examined the extent of his injuries. His face was all grimy from soot, clothes were tattered and stained with blood. He was rubbing his left arm gently.
“It will be fine. It just hurts a little.” He hissed when she touched the arm.
“Sankore? I almost didn´t recognize you.” she said in surprise and studied him closely. Only now she noticed his sharp features of his face and his usual cheerful, light green eyes were now sad and empty. His eyes confusedly flitted around the room, which previously was his home.
“What happened here?” Arian asked and paced around a former smithy. It was almost dark, but he noticed odd tracks that were left by someone on the soot-stained floor. Sankore glanced around the ruins of the village.
„We were attacked.” His voice trembled. He stared straight ahead. His expression was blank.
“But by whom? The raiders from south?“ Arian asked. Sankore shook his head.
“It wasn´t them. We know their style and weapons. We could beat them. Moreover they are slow. But they... they were fast, nimble and strong. They were like shadows. They had about two meters, long tail with sharp thorns, mouth full of teeth, deadly weapons and impenetrable armor. Their dark scaly skin blend in with the forest. They couldn´t be stopped. One of them jumped on me and knocked me back. I can still see those dark yellow eyes staring at me hungrily. Fortunately, I managed to shake him off and get into the house. Then they demolished it.”
Eunis was watching at him in awe. She couldn´t imagine such horror. Arian broke the silence.
“What did they want? We don´t even know them, so what was their reason?” he asked.
“Who knows.” Sankore said simply.
“Where are the others” Eunis remembered.
“Most managed to escape into the woods and hide there. But some were captured and taken away. We can only imagine what they did with them.” Suddenly Sankore twisted in a painful spasm and groaned quietly.
“Arian, try to find a house of Paran. As a healer he should have some ointments. Bring them to me, please.” she said. Arian nodded and ran across the village.
“It will be fine. I'm fine.” Sankore was persuading her.
“You have extensive injuries. And I'm not talking about those inside. I'm surprised you're still alive.”
”Well, you know. Blacksmiths like I have taken deep root.” He joked.
