Avatar the Last Airbender is full of The Incredibles (2004) references. Fire Lord Ozai (who flies via fire shoes, like Syndrome) fighting Aang, an Airbender, is a reference to Syndrome dying in a jet turbine.

So I fully expected to be annoyed by Hobie (I went into the movie blind) with the whole thing playing out as "You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about" kind of situation but I'm so happy it's not. I very much love Hobie and while half the time I had zero idea what kind of british stuff the man was saying, he's just the best guy ever. Love that guy!!
