The first purchase I made for myself when I got my first job at 16 (after gas and expenses lol) was a tube of lipgloss, Aerosmith's Greatest Hits, and DSOTM (both on CD). I'd already heard Money on the radio all the time and my dad scared the shit out of me with Time by not warning me about the clocks lol. But that was my first time listening all the way through. Headphones on, in the dark. Completely blown away. 🥲
It’s kind of funny actually I can’t remember the first time I ever heard Dark Side off The Moon. It was just apart of my life one day and I can’t imagine myself without it’s influence. When was the first time you heard it?
Saw Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets: Echoes tour in DC last night. Among lots of funny little things Nick said, he introduced Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun thusly:
"We're going to play a song now that is very near and dear to my heart, because I spent many a year watching Roger Waters bang holy hell out of this gong, and I was never allowed to play it. But, I've got my own gong now and I've given myself permission to play it." 😌
If you're a Floyd fan and you get the chance, go see the show. It was absolutely wonderful. All the pre-Dark Side classics were played and some of the more obscure stuff - like Vegetable Man, one that NO OTHER member of Pink Floyd or Floyd tribute band has ever played live - and they use the "old ways" for producing unique visual effects each night (e.g., using 2 concave clock faces, baby oil, ink, and water to create live lava lamp-like projections). All the old hippies in the audience were bouncing in their seats or jumping out of them to dance. Nick is SO sweet and funny, you can tell by watching him that he's having the best time. The band is also phenomenal and work really well together (Guy Pratt's in the band!). 10/10, if he had another show booked closer I'd see it again. The merch is nice too!
Some factoids about the Semen and Gay Uncle saga that I see people kind of mess up on:
- There are technically three iterations of the saga: Semen and Gay Uncle, Gayvy Jones, and the Davy Jones T-Boy Swag Voter Fraud. - Semen and Gay Uncle had to do with a light-hearted joke about Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel being gay getting taken into debate by a blog that wrote toddler headcanons for Michael Nesmith of the band The Monkees. - Gayvy Jones had to do with a similar light-hearted joke about Davy Jones of The Monkees being taken into debate by a blog that not only was anti-abortion, but wrote rpf of straight Paul Simon mpreg with (out lesbian) actress Lily Tomlin. - While both scenarios have their similarities, both blogs are NOT the same person, and all evidence points to them being TWO DIFFERENT people.
Will add more additions as need be.
