Oh yeah, that Hunter stuff is dumb as fuck.
There's a reason almost nobody ever follows that; even when little Nighty dies. In Im_Sorry_Buddy's fanfic Spilled Ink, it's just corruption overtaking him and not a third party haunting his corpse.
Dream is always more interesting when he combats negative emotions, and Nightmare is always more interesting when he is (at least most of the time) in control of himself. (Passive and Corruption sharing a body is also interesting, but I haven't ever seen Passive with Hunter and For Good Fucking Reason.)
Words cannot describe how much I despise the og dreamtale story, and I'll share why.
if we're speaking purely by the barebones plot, dreamtale can be, on a surface level, considered a well put together story on how there are different ways to feel negative and positive emotions and how feeling negativity towards some things is healthy, but letting it consume you leads to you yourself becoming what you previously hated the most. It also explores how being to positive and not letting yourself feel negative emotion is harmful toward your mental health and wellbeing.
This is where I think Dreamtale fundamentally fails.
Joku decided to write Nightmare (and dream but we'll get there) in a way that actually harms the story its trying to tell.
Passive is an innocent child, bullied for something he cannot control, this is because the people around him associate negative emotion and negativity = Bad, harmful. As the readers, we know this isn't the case, but eventually, passive is pushed over the edge and consumes one of the apples of negativity.
Nightmare is immediately corrupted, but instead of Nightmare being well.... nightmare, passive is apparently dead and nightmare is now a dead, vengeful hunter that had tried to slay Nim (Dream and Nightmares Mother) a soul was trapped in the tree?
This could be Joku trying to convey that sometimes negativity can consume a person so much it fundamentally changes them, but this is much less impactful. We have not grown close to this Nightmare, we just know that he's evil now, and he wants to kill everyone yet also have more negativity? The only motive that makes sense is killing his brother.
I believe that this could have been much more impactful if we cut the hunter out entirely and portray Nightmare as he really was when he transformed; A scared, hurt child.
Nightmare wasn't immediately this imposing, dark, and looming figure of uncertain fate, he was a child whose negative emotions consumed him, and being a young child, he lashed out.
And he would continue lashing out, for many years, many different villages. But as he aged, he also matured and realized that the murder of thousands of people would not help him achieve his main goal: Killing Dream. After this realization, he hid himself away in an abandoned castle, collecting his followers from across the multiverse and preparing for the fights with Dream soon to come.
Dream is a little more complicated to asses, as throughout the story, he is portrayed as an innocent baby who can never do anything wrong.
But Dream is an adult.... and he should be treated as such. we never see any of Dreams flaws and disadvantages explored, only the fact that he loves his brother.
I wish we could've seen Dream struggle with negative emotions and feels as thought he must bottle them up being the guardian of positivity.
I want to see him look back and hate the villagers that hurt his brother, and he has to come and confront the fact that he has hate and negativity in his soul and its okay to feel those emotions.
But this is all just my opinion, share your thoughts/how you think the story could have been handled better.
literally its so fun being abnormal about christianity and also being christian because i just said "id kiss judas with tongue" in front of my pastor and she squinted at me and went "do you need to be removed from council or are you going to be normal?"
I read the top half so I read tsc as "to protect creatures" and tco as "to protect destroy"....I am fool and cannot read lmao
Parallels or something
Yeah okay I'll pluck that head cannon from you.
random but i really like the idea that Ink has certain devices that helps him in warning that he's ruining low of paints. Imagine something akin to a diabetes monitor that tracks his paints level level during the day and night and how it's affect during certain activites (since it's canon that he can stay in the battlefield for too long since his abilities are quite limited)
You have zero idea how much I love this concept actually
Like it can be extremely practical for Ink who’s quite forgetful, and especially practical during fights so they’d know when they have to retreat or to even use his paints in a more organized manner
Ok but what if it had a lil battery shape on it with rainbow colors and the less paint Ink has the less rainbow colors would be on the battery? And as it gets close to reaching the last color the monitor alerts ink?
Idk just a design idea hdhdhdhdh
Anyway, Anon you have such a big brain and I think the fandom should start using this concept immediately
Not my usual content, but I made something I wanted to share...
Edit: Now with an ID from @a-captions-blog! Thank you for writing it!
[Art description: A Pokémon-themed comic featuring OP as a Pikachu. Long description follows.
1. The tips of Pikachu’s ears are shown with text that says, ‘I’m a Pikachu / My world is filled with lots of cool stuff. Sometimes it feels like anything is possible!’ Under this is a collage showing a Charizard, a Pidgeotto, a Nidoking, an Eevee, and an Ivysaur, all in the background as the Pikachu looks up in wonder. Text reads, ‘All sorts of types, all sorts of attacks, all sorts of Pokemon.’
2. Text says, ‘But...only two ways a Pikachu’s tail could look.’ Two boxes in the upper corners show the male and female Pikachu tails, respectively. The male has a rectangular end to his tale, and the female has a heart-shaped end to hers. Text continues, ‘So then, what am I?’ A large drawing of the narrator Pikachu is shown, with an arrow pointing to their tail, whose end is split somewhat like scissors and doesn’t match either the male or female drawing above.
3. Text says, ‘Too pointy to be [female], too much of a V-shape to be [male]. I thought there was something wrong with me.’ Under this are three cascading panels showing the Pikachu from below at an angle emphasizing their tail. The second panel shows mel further away, and in the final panel she have disappeared entirely. Text on the panels reads, ‘I felt / very, very, very / alone.’
4. Text says, ‘But then, something happened. I found others like me.’ The art shows the narrator reaching out to another Pikachu. Under this are three other Pikachu. One has a rounded tail, one has a tail that has been stitched up to be rectangular, and one has a tail with a slight spike at the tip.
5. Closeups are shown of each of the tails from the previous panel, with text that says, ‘Round tails, scarred tails, spiky tails.’ Under this is a drawing of the Pikachu all hugging with lightning coming from their cheeks. Text reads, ‘They told me nothing was wrong with me, and I wasn´t alone anymore.’
6. Text says, ‘There are many ways a Pikachu’s tail can look. I’ve heard there’s at least over 30 different variations.’ Under this are two panels. The first panel shows the narrator lying on their back on a background of male and female symbols. Text reads, ‘Some days are still hard.’ In the second panel, the Pikachu with the scarred tail is shown with text that says, ‘My friend tells me her tail used to look just like mine. It was taken from her.’
8. The narrator is shown sitting and looking upwards. Text reads, ‘Some trainers won’t accept Pikachu that aren’t [male] or [female]. They alter our tails without our consent. But things are getting better. We are making change. We’re fighting so that our tails will be left alone.’ Under this is a panel showing the four Pikachu running happily towards the right. Text reads, ‘We’re all on a spectrum. Every tail looks different; anything is possible.’
The final text reads, ‘This is a comic about intersex people.’ The watermark in the lower right says @ PostManic. \End descriptions

💥 💳 💥
drops this here and runs like hell
Thank you for answering my question! I thought with like 98% certainty that he would accept them, but I just had to make sure, y'know? This is a very nice and complex answer, and it satisfies me greatly.
Go Loving And Supportive Dadmare!!
I just asked this on a pretty old post about gooptales, but I thought I would do it here.
You say that nightmare already knows what the end result would be if the boys were trans, so he would either accept them if he knew them as trans already, or redirect them if he knew it wasn't actually the right gender.
Well, what if the adult he once knew was wrong, and didn't have the chance or idea to explore their gender? How would he react then if the skeleton kept saying it as they matured?
Just think about this dadmare version of Nightmare. He sees these idiots as his family, no matter how they see themselves or what they did. The boys are his idiots; no matter what, they will still be his idiots.
He will mourn the old them, as he is already starting to do. I have shown and hinted that he has started to question what it will be like if he raises them.
---
GoopTales-First Scene of Chapter 5 or Part 17:
"This evening had been nice. They ate dinner together, played a board game, and enjoyed each other's company. But the fact is that his boys were different. As enjoyable as this afternoon and evening were, he wanted the adults back. He even missed the chaos of them. He would know they were alright if they were their true selves again. Additionally, they would know who he was and not be wondering why they couldn’t go home.
(Except for Dust, that one could use being raised by him. A far better option than his actual childhood.)
But even the adult Dust he sorely missed."
---
Even if they don't have any changes like being or not being trans or having a different sexual orientation, as previously asked, he knows they will not be the exact same as they were before. Their life experiences have changed, which means there will be changes. Regardless, he still loves them, and he will love whoever they grow up to be. He already considers them his, and that will never change.
Knowing that, take whatever scenarios you want and apply. Is the person in question one of his idiots? Yes? Then that person will always be one of his idiots, no matter who they are, change to be, or what happens to them. And to make it clear, if he feels there is a need to guide or redirect, it would be gentle. If he realizes they are correct and he is not, then he will adjust. In Growing Up GoopTales, when it comes to all things involving the gang, he would guide them so they can be at their best.
And most importantly, he will always, always, love them.
magical girls are real, and you have been chosen by a magical creature to become one. The only problem is your a full grown man with 2 kids and a wife.
Oh yes. Delicious
So why couldn't X!Gaster make the marks go away? If he wanted to "fix" Cross being trans, I feel like that would be a easier way to do it
hello again! i assume this is the same anon xD
i'm sure that that's how he would have eventually chosen to "cure" cross' transness if he'd gotten around to it in time, but in TAU, "code" is something of a misnomer in the first place - it's not something as "easy" (in quotes because code is a pain in the ass for me) to read and understand as like, python or javascript, and especially not in living, sentient entities who are constantly taking in new information, processing it on multiple levels, and generally just... yanno, changing.
so 1: in order to erase cross' transness he would have had to do a deep-dive on a huge tome of code that was actively changing and growing underneath his feet, and 2: in order to delete only that part of his code and nothing more, he'd need to know where it came from.
and the trouble, here, is that cross is not actually a "pure" sans.
in fact, speaking more meta - gaster would have no way to know this for sure - i'd like to think that cross' eye markings are technically because he's part toriel. not a super significant amount, mind you, but he is the only person in nightmare's pantheon who can heal, he inexplicably loves to bake even where swap/blue doesn't, and in certain AUs where he reaches LV 20... he mysteriously grows horns.
again, speaking meta, i would have to assume that his eye markings are probably related to that bit of code - but in order to find and erase it, gaster would have to basically destroy his sense of self and start over. so even if he'd gotten to that point and tried to "fix it", he likely would have given up anyway simply because it wasn't worth the work it would take - and in that case, there are easier "solutions" to be had.
Of course *he* can have his full tiddies on display, but when a single fem presenting nipple appears the world explodes!!
